A driver died in a fiery crash Thursday morning after hitting a maintenance vehicle on Interstate 294 in the southwest suburbs, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash happened about 5:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Buckley Road, according to a statement from state police spokesman Edgar Valdez.
The car was engulfed in flames and the driver was pronounced dead at scene, Valdez said. The driver of the tollway maintenance truck was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive.
All but one lane was closed during an investigation, Valdez said.
