Driver dies after car crashes into tree and catches fire

A driver has died after a serious crash which saw a main road closed for more than six hours.

The fatal collision happened on the A483 just south of Llanwrtyd Wells, between Llandovery Road and Sugar Loaf train station, just before 1pm on Saturday.

In a statement, Dyfed-Powys Police said the force was appealing for witnesses in relation to the crash that happened at approximately 12:50pm.

The statement continued: "The collision involved one vehicle, a blue Vauxhall VX220.

"Sadly, the driver passed away at the scene whilst the passenger sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital at this time.

"It is believed that the vehicle was travelling in convoy with four other vehicles who all remained at the scene and are assisting police with the investigation."

The Welsh Ambulance Service has previously said a patient had been taken to  Morriston Hospital  with serious injuries.

Emergency services - including the air ambulance - were called to the crash and the road was closed until just after 7pm.

The collision involved one vehicle which crashed into a tree and caught fire, the fire service said.
