The driver of a BMW has died after a collision with a Volkswagen van on Sunday morning.
Emergency services arrived on the A553 at Fender Lane in Prenton around 9am. The driver, who had serious injuries, was rescued and taken to hospital.
At 7pm, police confirmed that the driver had passed away. The driver and passenger of the van did not require hospital treatment.
Merseyside Police said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that the driver of a BMW involved in a road traffic collision in Prenton this morning (Sunday, 2 June) has died.
"Officers were called to the scene of a collision involving a BMW and a Volkswagen panel van on Fender Lane, Prenton, at 9am.
"The driver of the BMW was taken to hospital where he later died. A post-mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death."
