Driver cut free from car after being seriously injured in two-vehicle Tynemouth crash

A driver had to be cut out of a vehicle following a serious crash in Tynemouth.

Emergency crews were called to a serious road traffic collision between two cars on Grand Parade just after 5pm on Sunday.

Crews from Tynemouth were on the scene within four minutes after reports occupants were trapped inside one of the cars.

North East Ambulance Service confirmed that two individuals were in need of assistance at the scene with one later rushed to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital for treatment.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews, who treated one person on scene and transported a second patient to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."

A spokesperson stated: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Grand Parade in Tynemouth at 5.14pm on Sunday evening.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson also confirmed that their officers were called to the scene and added their relief that all involved were successfully brought to safety.

“At about 5.30pm on Sunday (November 14) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Grand Parade, Tynemouth.

"Thankfully nobody suffered life-threatening injuries."

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service hailed the work of both their own crews and also the efforts of Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service.

"Our response to this incident not only demonstrates the skill of our crews, but it shows how closely we work with our partners.

"It was a great example of how we work together with Northumbria Police and North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to keep our communities."
