Driver critically injured in Arlington Heights crash

A driver was critically injured in a crash June 22, 2019, at Central and Wilke roads in Arlington Heights.

A man was critically hurt in a crash Saturday in northwest suburban Arlington Heights.

The 52-year-old was driving a 2007 Honda Civic at 9:42 a.m. when he tried to turn left from eastbound Central Road to northbound Wilke Road, according to a statement from Arlington Heights police. During the turn, the Honda hit a 2016 Jeep Cherokee that was westbound on Central.

The Honda’s driver was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights in critical condition with head trauma, police said. The man, a Rolling Meadows resident, did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Two people in the Jeep, a husband and wife, suffered minor injuries, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, but police said contributing factors included the Honda driver’s impairment and his failure to yield to the other vehicle.

Police are still working to determine whether any citations will be filed pending the results of the investigation and the condition of the driver.
