Driver crashed into parked car then pretended to leave details, claims witness

A driver allegedly pretended to leave their details after crashing a car into a parked vehicle.

A gold Nissan Micra reversed into a parked car, owned by a 49-year-old woman, at 1.30pm on March 25 in Broad Street, Staple Hill.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, was shopping in the nearby Iceland supermarket.

When she returned, she says she saw her blue Renault Captur's driver side had been “smashed in”.

She spoke to a witness who told her a man and a woman had got out of the Nissan Micra after it crashed.

The witness said the pair asked for a pen and paper so they could leave their details on the car.

The incident was caught on CCTV. Footage can be seen at the top of this page.

“They took a picture of the damage and my registration,” said the Renault owner.

“They made a right song and dance. The man put the details under my wiper-blade and the woman removed them at the same time.

“The note affair was a step too far for me. It’s absolutely despicable behaviour.”

She said repairs will cost around £2,000 and she will have to pay a £200 insurance excess.

“I am really fed up about it,” she added. “It will put up my premium.

“The time and effort I have wasted on this is a joke really.”

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson said: “Police are looking into a fail-to-stop collision which happened in Broad Street, Staple Hill, at about 1.30pm on Monday, March 25.

“The Micra driver failed to leave details. Officers have issued a notice to the registered keeper of the vehicle requesting details of the driver.

“The registered keeper has 28 days to respond. It's an offence not to give this information.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, has CCTV of the incident or any other information which could help can get in touch through www.avonandsomerset.police.uk , or by calling 101, quoting collision reference 2019/2030.”
