Driver crashed into four parked cars in Nottingham - this picture shows the aftermath

A driver who smashed into four parked cars has been sentenced.

Floyd Sneap, 24, Pearmain Drive, off the Wells Road, between St Ann's and Mapperley, was found guilty of dangerous driving and possession of a controlled drug (class B) at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (July 23).

The charges relate to an incident on October 23, 2018, where officers out on patrol in Bestwood spotted something suspicious.

A driver drove off in the opposite direction to them at speed, racing down Hartcroft Road.

Due to the erratic driving, the driver lost control, colliding with a car travelling from the opposite side of the road, then smashing into four parked cars before stopping to an abrupt halt.

That didn't stop Sneap, though, who climbed out of the crashed car and ran off on foot.

Officers gave chase and he was quickly detained a short while later close by.

A search during the arrest also saw Sneap in possession of cannabis.

A passenger, who suffered neck and head injuries, was taken to Queen's Medical Centre for treatment.

Sneap was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years.

Police Constable Dan Butler, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was an appalling act of dangerous driving and it was only by good fortune no one was seriously injured.

“It is worrying that some motorists feel they can behave in a totally reckless manner when they take to the roads.

"Sneap drove dangerously, and at speed, causing other vehicles to take evasive action.

“He not only risked his own life, but also risked the lives of others that day.

“This case should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks it’s OK to flout motoring laws.

"Those who do should know that we will bring them before the courts.”
