Driver 'clipped a police car,' almost struck officer before driving away

Police are on the lookout for an unidentified driver whose vehicle clipped a police car and almost struck an officer conducting a traffic stop in Waramanga on Monday night.

The incident was caught on camera.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses and dashcam footage of the incident.

About 9.50pm on Monday, June 8, 2026, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Hindmarsh Drive. While an officer approached the vehicle, another car, believed to be an SUV, collided with the police vehicle, knocking the wing mirror off and narrowly avoiding striking the officer.

The driver then failed to stop and continued driving west along Hindmarsh Drive, police said.
