Driver charged over northern Victorian crash which left his four passengers dead

Police have charged a man following a car crash in which four people died at Pine Lodge, near the northern Victorian city of Shepparton, earlier this month.

A car and ute collided on Pine Lodge North Road, near Cosgrove-Lemnos Road, about 4.45pm last Wednesday.

Four of the five occupants of the car died at the scene.

The 29-year-old man who was driving the ute was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the car, a 41-year-old Shepparton man, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries where he remains under police guard.

He was charged with four counts of dangerous driving causing death.

He has been remanded and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court in June.
