Driver charged over Anzac Bridge deaths

A man has been charged over the deaths of two people on Sydney's Anzac Bridge.

Police said a 41-year-old Burwood man was arrested on Saturday evening after being released from hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The man's Commodore sedan allegedly hit two vehicles which had stopped due to a minor collision late on Friday night, which resulted in the death of a 25-year-old woman from Lidcombe and a 38-year-old man from Hurstville.

The two were thought to be exchanging details following the initial collision, police have said.

A passing taxi, being driven by a 24-year-old man from Westmead, was also struck by one of the vehicles when it was pushed into the third lane.

The Burwood man has been charged with three offences: two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death - driving in a dangerous manner and one count of negligent driving occasioning death.

He has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
