Police have charged a man after a pedestrian was fatally struck at Rosewater, in Adelaide's western suburbs, last night.

Emergency services were called to Addison Road at about 7:20pm after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a white Commodore station wagon.

The 25-year-old woman from the state's far north was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition, but died shortly after arriving.

Police said a short time after the crash, the driver of the Commodore presented at the Port Adelaide Police Station.

The 45-year-old man from Rosewater was interviewed by major crash investigators and later charged with aggravated driving without due care and failing to stop and render assistance.

He was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 15.

Addison Road was closed while police investigated.  (ABC News)

Addison Road was closed to all traffic while police examined the scene, but has since reopened.

Police said they are still investigating the circumstances around the crash.

They have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or who was travelling south behind the white Commodore station wagon on Addison Road or noticed the woman on Addison Road prior to the collision to contact Crime Stoppers.

The woman's death brings the number of lives lost on South Australian roads to 40, compared to 37 at this time last year.
