A man has been charged after a fatal head-on crash at Newcastle yesterday.
Police say a Nissan Navara was travelling east on Park Avenue, Kotara, when it allegedly failed to negotiate the bend and collided head-on with a white Toyota Camry, travelling in the opposite direction.
The 58-year-old driver of the Camry was trapped in her vehicle and had to be freed by emergency services. She was rushed to John Hunter Hopsital where she later died.
The 27-year-old driver of the other car suffered minor injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital as a precaution, where he also underwent mandatory testing.
Following his release from hospital, he was taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts of negligent driving, and not keeping left of the dividing line.
The man was refused bail is was expected to face Newcastle Local Court on Monday.
