Driver cautioned after child hit by car in Belfast

A child was taken to hospital after a being struck by a car in West Belfast on Tuesday.

Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to the road traffic collision on the Springfield Road close to the junction of Springfield Avenue.

The six-year-old child, who was a pedestrian, suffered injury and was subsequently transferred to hospital after he was struck by a Volkswagen Polo.

It's believed the child was later released from hospital.

Speaking to Belfast Live, a spokesperson for the PSNI said: "The driver of the car was cautioned for a number of driving offences."

Their appeal added: "The collision took place at 2:15 pm on 9th March 2021. Anyone who is witness to this or may have dash camera footage please contact Police on 101 quoting police reference number 886 of 9/3/21. Thank you."

Separately, a 25-year old man has died following an alleged assault in Bangor.

Police investigating the incident which reportedly took place at the Fernmore Road area in the early hours of Sunday, February 28 say he died in hospital on Tuesday.

He has been named at Denis Shearer from Bangor.

A PSNI spokesperson added: "A 39 year old male and a 38 year old female have been charged in relation to this incident."
