Driver caused death of pal in 125mph crash that 'forever damaged family's lives'

A man has been jailed for causing the death of his friend after driving at speeds of up to 125mph and losing control of his car.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard Martin Cameron was seen driving at excessive speed on a 60mph-limit road in the Highlands on May 9, 2018.

The bright orange Ford Focus then crashed into two trees on the B851 Culloden Moor to Errogie road at Farr, by Inverness, according to the Crown Office.

Passenger Shaun Allan, 26, died of his injuries a short time later.

Nicky Patrick, procurator fiscal for homicide and major crime, said in a statement: "Martin Cameron's dangerous driving and excessive speed has forever damaged the lives of the family and friends of Shaun Allan.

"This should serve as a tragic reminder of the very serious consequences of dangerous driving and the deep harm that it can cause."

Cameron, 25, pleaded guilty on October 1 at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison, and was also disqualified from driving for more than six years.
