Driver caught on wrong side of East Lancs arrested after failing breath test

A driver caught travelling towards oncoming traffic on the East Lancs Road has been arrested.

Police traffic patrols spotted a car going the wrong way on the busy road and only narrowly avoiding other vehicles late last night, December 27.

The driver was quickly pulled over by officers and blew an alcohol reading of 93, which is more than twice the legal limit.

They were arrested and taken to Swinton Police Station.

In a tweet, an officer from GMP's Traffic Unit wrote: "Officers from SCIU noticed a vehicle travelling along the East Lancashire Road on the opposing carriageway!

"Narrowly missed oncoming cars, vehicle stopped. Driver provided a positive alcohol reading of 98!

"Driver en-route to Swinton custody."
