Driver caught drink driving on M60 with a six-month-old baby in the car

A driver has been arrested after being caught drink driving on the M60 motorway with a six-month-old baby in the car.

Greater Manchester Police traffic officers say they came across a vehicle on junction six of the M60 for Sale interchange, at 4am on Wednesday morning.

Inside the car, police say they found a 'drunk' driver and a six-month-old baby inside the vehicle.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and child neglect.

They were also arrested for a section 20 assault on a police officer and an assault on an emergency worker, following an altercation.

Traffic had to be temporarily stopped while officers dealt with the incident, according to Highways England.

The driver is now in police custody for questioning.

In a post on Twitter, GMP Traffic said: "At 04.00hrs traffic police came across a vehicle on the M60 junction 6, inside of which was a drunk driver with a six month old baby.

"The driver was arrested Sec4rta, child neglect, Sec20 on police and assault emergency worker. Currently in custody for interview.

"Trying to safely detain someone who is drunk and physically resisting is never a good day... never mind when on the hard shoulder of a motorway."
