Driver caught by traffic police speaking to her mother on FaceTime behind the wheel

A woman was pulled over by police who saw her using FaceTime as she drove.

Officers said it later emerged she was video-calling her mother.

The driver, who hasn't been identified, was said to have been so engrossed in her conversation that she didn't even notice a GMP patrol car alongside her vehicle.

She now faces a possible court appearence.

Police confirmed the driver was issued with a TOR - a traffic offence report - meaning she could face prosecution or be ordered to go on an educational course.

The woman was stopped on Old Clough Lane in Worsley, Salford, on Sunday morning, GMP Traffic Unit said.

The police patrol car followed her after she was first observed on FaceTime behind the wheel of the Vauxhall Corsa on the East Lancashire Road.

Writing on Twitter GMP Traffic Unit said: "Just stopped this Vauxhall Corsa on Old Clough Lane, Worsley, having observed the driver face timing her mother whilst driving along the East Lancashire Road.

"She was that distracted that she didn't even notice the traffic car next to her.

"TOR issued."

It's not known whether she was on an iPad or mobile phone.

The police's social media post after the incident has sparked a storm of reaction, with people saying the driver should face an instant ban.

Others claimed to see drivers using FaceTime 'most days' on the M62 and M60 motorways.

Responding to the post on Twitter, Jeffrey Lewis said: "Saved her from killing someone."

And poster Laura Kelly added: "I really don’t understand people.

"Surely the conversation could wait till she got home. Nothing is ever that urgent that a text or phone call can’t wait till either you're safe to pullover if your poorly or home."

No further information was revealed.
