Driver caught by police eating soup from a bowl at the wheel

A reckless driver was stopped by police for eating a bowl of soup while travelling at 50mph. Cops were left bowled over by the sight of the motorist tucking into the meal with no hands on the wheel.

The unidentified driver found themselves in hot water as they sped down an A road in Bedford with spoon in hand. The Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing Unit shared a tweet with pictures of the offender who put a new meaning to the phrase 'fast food'.

The unit said in the tweet: "Fast food at 50? Not just one slurp of the spoon but many until police on motorbikes stopped this driver. Not the only fast food eater we caught that day."

The Highway Code states a driver needs to drive with "both hands on the wheel or handlebars where possible". Police can prosecute for careless driving if a driver becomes distracted or loses control of the vehicle, with fines of £100 and up to three points on a licence.
