Driver arrested after stolen vehicle crashes into parked cars in residential area

A man has been arrested by police in Newport after allegedly driving under the influence and causing a collision in a stolen vehicle.

The driver, a 48-year-old man from Newport, crashed into two other parked cars in Summerhill Avenue at 5am, Tuesday, March 17, and was subsequently arrested by Gwent Police.

The police reported that the man currently remains in  custody “on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, driving while under the influence, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, and driving with no insurance".

The incident involved the stolen vehicle, a black Volvo V70, colliding with a white GMC Yukon and a black Ford Fiesta Zetec.

Gwent Police said: “Following an investigation by officers, who were assisted by the joint firearms unit, it was discovered that the Volvo was stolen from an address in Caerleon.”

The joint firearms unit, which operates across South Wales, earlier tweeted that they arrested the driver of the stolen vehicle after he “ran from the scene”.

Gwent Police ask anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting either log reference: 38 17/03/20 or 2000093755.

Alternatively, you can also reach them using Facebook and Twitter and you can report any information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
