Driver arrested after Cardiff crash that put cyclist in hospital

A driver was arrested after a cyclist was taken to hospital following a crash.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash involving a black Renault Clio and a bicycle in Cardiff on Thursday (April 16) afternoon.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing a large police presence after the accident at the junction of Penhill Road (A4119) and Conway Road in the Pontcanna area shortly after 4.30pm.

The road was cordoned off for a long period of time as paramedics treated the cyclist at the scene.

South Wales Police said that a 36-year-old male cyclist was taken to the University Hospital of Wales by ambulance where he is being treated for injuries which are described as not life-threatening.

A spokesman added that the 31-year-old male driver of the car was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody.

He added: "Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed, or who has any footage of the collision, or manner in which the Renault Clio was being driven in the lead up to the collision to contact South Wales Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit."

Any witnesses should call police on 101 quoting reference 2000129828.
