Driver and dog thrown across dual carriageway as caravan flips in horror smash

This is the horrifying moment a caravan flipped on a busy road sending a driver and pet dog hurtling across the carriageway.

Filmed on Wednesday, the footage shows a silver Toyota car with caravan attached overtaking while travelling on the A380, near Newton Abbot, Devon Live reports.

The car and caravan began to swerve and wobble violently after overtaking the lorry before rolling over multiple times and landing on its roof.

Debris from the car and caravan is left scattered across the road preventing any other motorists from passing.

A small white dog is spotted running away after the incident.

Miraculously, the driver only sustained minor injuries in the dramatic crash.

Devon and Cornwall Police said no-one else was in the car.

Dan Combellack, who recorded the footage on his lorry's dash cam, told Newsflare : "Everyone was fine. Some small cuts from flying glass. Very lucky. The dog was ok."

The crash led to the closure of the A380 between Exeter and Newton Abbot for much of Wednesday afternoon, leading to lengthy delays.

Diversions were in place on the A38 through Drum Bridges.

One lane northbound was also closed near the Ideford Dip. Delays continued until well after 5pm.

Combellack commented online: "[They] came down the hill faster than me shall we say. As it gets to the bottom, the vehicles kind of bottom out which is what started the wobble I think.

"Extremely lucky. Whole passenger side crushed. Anyone else in there apart from 2 occupants would have been dead."
