A 20-year-old driver is accused of ramming a car multiple times before shooting at the vehicle in Belconnen earlier this week.
Ahmad Alrajab faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, May 29, and did not enter pleas to discharging a firearm at a car and furious driving.
About 9.40pm on Monday, the man was allegedly driving a Ford Focus along Ginninderra Drive in Florey, when he crossed paths with people he knew travelling in a Holden Cruze.
During the encounter, he allegedly rammed the Holden multiple times before firing a gun at the car.
The people in the Holden called police, who later found the car in the gutter at the intersection of Ginninderra Drive and Kerrigan Street.
None of the people in the car were injured, police confirmed.
In the early hours of Friday, police found Alrajab in the passenger seat of an Audi sedan that was travelling along the Federal Highway in Majura.
During a search of the car, officers found a key that was believed to belong to the Ford Focus, which was later located at an address in Ngunnawal.
Police said the car had damage consistent with the alleged ramming and was now undergoing forensic testing. Alrajab was later arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.
In court, a Legal Aid duty lawyer applied for bail on her client's behalf, citing exceptional circumstances in his case.
She said Alrajab was the sole owner of a barber shop and his family was financially reliant on him to run the business.
However, magistrate James Stewart didn't even need to hear from the prosecution before denying the man bail, saying his situation didn't come close to meeting the exceptional circumstances threshold.
"I'm against you," he told the lawyer.
The man's case will return to court at a later date.
