Driver allegedly drives off after crashing into cop car in Lanarkshire street

There was a large police presence in Rutherglen this morning after a man crashed his car into a police vehicle before making off.

The alleged incident is said to have happened around 10.30am in the Duchess Road area.

That saw a car collide with a police vehicle before the driver allegedly drove off in the vicinity of Victoria Street in the town.

It is unclear if anyone sustained any injuries in the incident, but one eye witness told Lanarkshire Live how the road remained taped off.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, told us: “Police had closed off Farmeloan Road.

“There were plenty of cops about and police tape - it looked quite serious.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed the incident with us.

She said: “A 32-year-old man has been arrested following a road traffic collision involving a car and a police vehicle in Rutherglen.

“The car initially made off before being abandoned on Victoria St.”

Anyone with any information or possible dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
