A driver was airlifted to hospital after a crash in Wirral today which prompted a large response from emergency services.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) confirmed crews were called to Willowbrow Road, Birkenhead, at 2.45pm this afternoon to reports of a crash between a BMW and Nissan Note.
One of the drivers was taken to hospital by air ambulance and the other remains at the scene. Three people were injured in the crash, with the injuries being described as 'serious' by Merseyside Police.

Two fire engines and the search and rescue team from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the incident.
On arrival, both cars were on all four wheels, with one person trapped inside each car.
One person managed to get themselves out of one of the cars before the crews arrived.
Crews used cutting equipment to carry out roof removals in order to remove two casualties from the vehicles.
Merseyside Police are also in attendance and have closed Birkenhead Road in both directions.
The road was closed in both directions by police at 4.50pm and according to AA sensors, traffic is 'coping well'.
Road closures remain on Willowbrow Road, Willow Lane, Birkenhead Road, Willaston Road and Benty Heath Road.
The incident is ongoing and police have asked motorists to avoid the area if possible.
