A driver was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a two-car smash on a Scots road this afternoon.

Police and paramedics raced to the scene at around 1.20pm.

The other vehicle involved is believed to have been an Audi SUV.

One passer-by said: "One of the cars was on the grass verge - there were a lot of police."

Officers sealed off the road all afternoon following the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 1.20pm on Friday, 17 July, to a report of a two car crash on the B7066, Cultskyefoot, Whitburn.

“One man, the driver of one of the cars, has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, with serious injuries.

"The driver and the passenger of the other car were also injured. Officers are still at the scene and the road is still closed.”
