Driver airlifted to hospital after horror A77 crash closes busy Scots road

A driver was airlifted to hospital after a horror crash on the A77 left three people injured and shut down the busy road.

Two cars collided just south of the Bellfield Interchange at Kilmarnock, around 8am this morning.

The female driver of a Mini has been rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by air ambulance.

Meanwhile the male driver of a Vauxhall Insignia has been taken to Crosshouse Hospital, along with a female passenger in the Mini.

None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

The road is currently closed while investigations continue.

Officers are urging anyone with more information to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a crash involving two cars on the A77, just south of the Bellfield Interchange at Kilmarnock, around 8am on Saturday, 25 September.

"The male driver of a Vauxhall Insignia has been taken to Crosshouse Hospital along with the female passenger within a Mini.

"The female driver of the Mini has been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by air ambulance.

"None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening at this stage.

"The road is currently closed south bound.

"Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact us on 101 quoting incident number 1062 of 25 September."
