The driver was trying to use a loophole in the car tax system that has yet to be plugged, but was found out by the roads policing unit.

A spokesperson for the gardai confirmed that the car was seized following the incident. They said: "DMR South Roads Policing Unit stopped this car for no tax or NCT.

"Driver was a previous owner who admitted selling and then buying back the car in an attempt to avoid paying tax.

"Vehicle Seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
