Driver admits killing 'hero' teenage moped rider in crash

A driver who killed a teenage moped rider in a crash has been told she faces a spell in prison.

Chantelle Gleave, 22, admitted causing the death of A-level student Ethan Ross by dangerous driving.

She was driving the car which collided with the 17-year-old Denbigh High School pupil’s moped on the A55 at St Asaph in September last year, NorthWalesLive reported.

Judge Rhys Rowlands said Gleave, of Larch Avenue, Shotton, Flintshire, was of previous good character but “an immediate custodial sentence is quite inevitable”. He ordered a pre-sentence report and said she didn’t seek for her bail to be extended.

Sentencing was adjourned until next month. Judge Rowlands told her as she appeared at Mold Crown Court: “Miss Gleave you pleaded guilty to what is not only a tragedy but, of course, an extremely serious offence.”

Ethan’s family had said after the fatal crash: ”We are all totally devastated and our hearts ache so very much for the loss of our beautiful, selfless, kind, caring, determined, quiet, gifted, Chelsea FC-loving son, brother, and grandson.

“He made us burst with pride every single day. Ethan’s legacy will live on as he was able to donate his organs and give the most precious thing of all – a gift of life to others.

“There are not enough words to write how much we are all going to miss him. The world will be an emptier place without him in it. He will be forever our hero – Ethan we love you.”

Ethan was airlifted to hospital at Stoke-on-Trent but died on September 14.
