Driver admits causing David Naish's death in motorway crash

A driver has admitted causing the death of a Bristol dad in a motorbike crash at the Almondsbury Interchange.

Harrison Wood appeared before Bristol Crown Court today. The 22-year-old, of Wotton Road in Charfield, denied causing the death of David Naish by dangerous driving on October 29, 2019.

But he pleaded guilty to causing the 60-year-old's death by careless driving, which was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Mr Naish died after a crash on the M4-M5 interchange at Almondsbury on October 29, 2019. He was riding a motorbike when he was involved in a crash with another vehicle at around 6.30am.

Ray Tully QC, defending, applied for a pre-sentence report on his client from the probation service.

Judge Martin Picton acceded to the application and adjourned the case for an estimated two-hour sentence on April 30.

He told Wood: "Because the court is adjourning for a report that is no indication of what may be the result.

"All options will be considered on the next occasion."

Wood was released on bail.

The family of Mr Naish released a heart-breaking tribute to him.

His wife described Mr Naish as her "soulmate" and his family said he will "always be loved and never forgotten".

Tribute to Bristol dad David Naish

A family statement said: “On Tuesday 29th October the most wonderful husband, father and friend was taken from us far too soon.

"It cannot be put into words how much you will be missed and how much happiness and laughter you brought into so many lives.

"A funny and caring man, never without a smile on your face, you always put your wife, children and others first and would do anything for your family.

“As our dad, you are a massive influence and role model and we wouldn’t be who we are without you and mum raising us and we will be forever grateful for that.

"We couldn’t be prouder to call you our dad and we are so grateful that you were also a best friend and someone with whom we could have so much fun and enjoy so many amazing memories.

“As my husband, you were a soulmate and best friend; with you I spent the most loving, unforgettable 40 years and 3 months of my life.

"I have been so blessed to have spent this time with the most wonderful, caring, selfless man. It is heart-breaking when I think of all the plans we made for our futures but I am so grateful for the time we had together, undoubtedly the best years of our lives.

“You have made an impact on so many people and this has been shown through the support and love that has been received. We would like to thank everyone for the cards, flowers, love and support.

"There are so many stories and memories that have been shared and everyone will always say how much you were loved; the most kind and thoughtful man, you will be always loved and never forgotten.

“As the saying went: ‘Everybody loves Dave.”
