Driver abandons dog in car after being pursued by police in Middleton

A driver abandoned his dog after trying to escape police when his car was pursued by officers in Middleton.

The motorist had earlier ignored two red crosses over lanes on the M60 and continued to drive on the inside lane.

He then left the motorway network and failed to stop for officers, who had spotted his contravention.

The driver subsequently abandoned his vehicle and his pet with the former seized and the latter rescued.

In a 3.54am post on the GMP Traffic Twitter account @gmptraffic a spokesperson recounted the incident, and also attached an accompanying photograph of the purple Volkswagen car that was taken away by officers.

The tweet read: "This vehicle contravened 2x X on the #M60 right in front of #XT18. Vehicle came off the motorway network & failed to stop @GMPMiddleton. Pursuit took place & the driver abandoned the vehicle… & his dog! Dog rescued & vehicle seized #165 #Locardsprinciple @NWmwaypolice."
