Driver abandons car as motorist left injured in Walton crash

Police are hunting a driver who fled on foot after a two-car crash which left another motorist with chest injuries.

The driver fled with at least one passenger after the Volvo they were in was involved in a collision with an Audi in City Road, Walton on Monday night.

Police said they abandoned the car -  which an ECHO reader's pictures show wedged head-on into the driver's side of the Audi close to the Go Local convenience store.

The occupants of the Volvo decided to hotfoot it from the scene as the male driver the Audi lay injured.

Police confirmed the victim was treated by ambulance staff at the scene for chest injuries and the driver of the Volvo and  at least one passenger had already fled by the time police officers arrived.

The road was closed briefly while emergency services dealt with the incident which happened around 7.30pm.

Today police urged anyone who could help their investigation to come forward.

A spokeswoman told the ECHO: "Merseyside Police were called to City Road, Walton last night following reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision. 
 


"The incident was reported to have happened at around 7.30pm when an Audi and a Volvo have been involved in a collision. 

"Unfortunately the occupiers of the Volvo made off from the scene before police arrival."

She added: "The ambulance service also attended where the driver of the Audi was treated for chest injuries. 

"The road was block for a short time whilst officers conducted further enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident including house to house enquiries, CCTV and forensic analysis. 



"Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and urge anyone with information that could help us, to please get in touch quoting 816 of 20th May."
