Driver abandons car after ploughing into garden wall - just yards from crash involving four vehicles

A driver abandoned their car after ploughing into a front garden wall in Whalley Range.

The silver Vauxhall Astra appeared to have struck a road sign before it smashed through the wall on Wilbraham Road.

It then hit the back of a Mercedes minibus parked on the driveway.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 10.50pm on Wednesday, April 6.

The driver of the vehicle was not there when they arrived.

There was no damage to the house, but a section of the wall could be seen completely flattened.

Police and the fire service were called to the collision on Wednesday, April 6 (ASP)

Images taken from the scene show the car a mangled wreck.

The road was sealed off by police while the mess was cleared up.

Fire crews were called to the scene as there were reports the vehicle was smoking, but it was not when they arrived.

The firefighters made sure the area was safe and helped with recovery of the damaged vehicle.

Greater Manchester Police were also called to the collision.

The incident took place just yards away from another crash, involving four cars, which took place earlier on the same evening on Wilbraham Road.

A section of Wilbraham Road, between Withington Road and Wyverne Road, was closed following the smash at 6pm.

There were no reported injuries.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 10.48pm last night to reports of a road traffic collision on Wilbraham Road, Whalley Range.

"One fire engine attended from Moss Side. We found a car had driven into a front garden wall.

"There was no structural damage to the property. Police were also in attendance.

"When we arrived the driver from the vehicle was not at the scene."
