Driver, 81, dies at scene after horrific two-car crash

A pensioner died at the scene after his vehicle was involved in an horrific two car crash.

The 81-year-old victim died after his Ford Fiesta and a Kia Rio collided in Padgate - a suburb of Warrington .

The two-car smash happened on the A574 Birchwood Way.

The incident occurred between the junctions of Blackbrook Avenue and the A50 Orford Road shortly after 9.30am on Tuesday, April 23  Cheshire Police said.

A spokesman confirmed the sad news that the Fiesta driver - who lived in Birchwood - died at the scene.

The driver of the Rio, a 38-year-old man from Orford, suffered minor injuries.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said enquiries are ongoing and urged witnesses and anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

'Family being supported by specialist officers'

He added: "Officers from Cheshire Police have launched an investigation following a fatal collision in Padgate. 

"The collision between a blue Ford Fiesta and a white Kia Rio occurred shortly after 9.30am on Tuesday, April 23.

"Sadly the driver of the Fiesta, an 81-year-old man from Birchwood, passed away at the scene.

"His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers."
