Driver, 27, dies days after horror crash that killed 'beautiful influencer' girlfriend

A car crash killed a "beautiful" influencer, 22, and her 27-year-old boyfriend, while injuring the taxi driver their Audi collided with in a tunnel.

The smash, in the Birkenhead Tunnel, or Queensway Tunnel, Liverpool in the early hours of Sunday, October 17, claimed the lives of 22-year-old Paige Rice, from Birmingham and her boyfriend, whom she was said to be visiting

Police said that prior to the tunnel incident the Audi was "involved in collision with another vehicle" at a nearby roundabout, the Liverpool ECHO reported.

Today Merseyside Police confirmed the driver of the Audi S3 was a 27-year-old from Manchester.

The man died in hospital a few days after the crash and it was Paige's mum Clare who said her daughter had been in Liverpool visiting her boyfriend as she paid tribute to her "beautiful girl".

Their car hit a taxi, seriously injuring the driver, a man in his 40s, and Merseyside Police confirmed the injured taxi driver is not the subject of any criminal inquiries.

On November 17, the family and friends of Paige Rice said their final goodbye at a funeral held at Woodlands Crematorium in Birmingham.

The nail technician from the West Midlands would have been 23 the day before she was laid to rest.

In the aftermath of the crash Inspector Mark Worrell said: "I would ask anyone who saw anything prior to the collision which could assist our enquiries to get in touch.

"It is believed that prior to entering the tunnel the Audi had been in collision with another vehicle on the Hunter Street roundabout. We are currently examining a number of lines of enquiry."

An online fundraising campaign created to support Paige's family has since raised more than £32,000, including a £5,000 donation from Manchester City and England footballer Jack Grealish.
