Driven to distraction: Lanarkshire pensioner left stressed after being sent continual parking tickets

A Lanarkshire pensioner has been left with road rage after continually being sent threatening letters over her usage of a shopping centre's car park.

Eighty-six-year-old Mary Scott is the latest person to complain about the Rutherglen Exchange shopping centre.

Lanarkshire Live has previously told of concerns regarding Gemini Parking, with scores of locals saying they have been contacted by the firm and told they did not purchase a ticket when using the park, only for cases to later be dropped.

In one instance Cambuslang woman Mary was contacted and told the fine had been dropped - only for another letter to arrive the very next day claiming that she now owed them money for another date.

The pensioner says the stress from the regular letters is leaving her exasperated.

She told us : "I'm a blue badge holder and I go to the arcade all the time.

"A few months ago I received a letter saying I hadn't paid for one of the visits and I paid up - I thought that they were right and I hadn't.

"But they keep coming in - I've had seven letters now, all saying I'm not paying for these tickets.

"Luckily I've been keeping the tickets since then so I can prove that I had paid for a ticket.

"It's a nonsense. I'm in there regularly - why would I avoid paying 50p and risk having to pay a £60 fine.

"I tried to speak to someone at the shopping entre about it, but was told the manager there wouldn't be able to deal with parking tickets."

Mary has managed to have some of the claims, with help from her son Peter and using the evidence she's kept of tickets.

However, the letters continue to arrive regularly.

She added: "It's a stress and I'm fed up with it. I look after my husband and this is something I could do without.

"There was one time recently where I had a letter one day saying they had dropped the case after we had been in touch with them, and the next day another one arrived saying I owed them money again.

"It's very upsetting and I've had enough."

Lanarkshire Live confirmed earlier this year that Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey was still hearing from constituents having trouble with fines from the car park.

A member of Ms Haughey's staff told us they would reach out to Mrs Scott and try to help her.

Rutherglen Exchange Shopping Centre were contacted for comment.
