Drive-thru restaurant could provide jobs boost at Wishaw industrial park

A “significant amount of jobs” would be created if plans for a new drive-thru restaurant, coffee shop and petrol station near Craigneuk are given the green light.

Proposals have been submitted to the council’s planning department by property consultants Colliers International for the drive thru within the Flemington Industrial Park.

Should the plans for the 1.1 hectare site be given the green light, it is expected to create jobs many of which will be filled by locals.

In its conclusions Colliers, who have been instructed by EG Group Ltd, state: “It is considered that overall the use of the site will be positive for the local area and generate activity and interest in the site as an opportunity for future development.

“It will also generate a significant amount of jobs many of which will be filled by local residents.

“In addition the uses proposed will serve a local role and support local businesses by providing small scale shopping, vehicles fuel and food and drink opportunities for employees and businesses.

“Overall it is considered the proposal will be a positive addition to the local area providing respite and services to vehicles and amenities for local residents.”

According to its own website, the EG Group, also known as Euro Garages, is the world’s leading independent fuel station and convenience retailer, with a diversified portfolio of sites across eight countries in Europe and North America.

By the end of 2018, the company was operating around 5,000 sites globally, employing more than 25,000 people.

The company has forged high-profile relationships with globally recognised brands, now operating in excess of 67 Starbucks drive-to and drive-thru restaurants, 50 Burger Kings, 153 Subway sub-stations and 104 Greggs bakeries.

If permission is granted then site would have five pump stations with one station for HGV’s.

There would also be 73 parking bays at the drive thru’s with two spaces for electric cars to charge and two disabled spaces.

Residents can give their opinions on the plans by logging onto the council’s planning and building section of its website.
