Drive-thru coronavirus test centre set up for NHS staff at Ashton Gate car park

A coronavirus swab testing centre has been set up in the car park of Ashton Gate stadium for NHS staff.

The home of Bristol City and the Bristol Bears will now play host to a crew from Bristol Ambulance, who will be testing NHS staff.

The test centre has been set up as a drive-thru, so health workers will not have to leave their cars in order to get tested.

NHS coronavirus testing point set up at Ashton Gate

A statement from Ashton Gate read: "A mobile Bristol Ambulance crew has based itself at Ashton Gate Stadium where NHS staff are now able to take a COVID-19 swab test.

"The 'drive-thru' testing facility in the Winterstoke car park is for staff of the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.

"As the mobile crew are set up as a 'drive-thru' people visiting will be able to take the test without needing to leave their cars.

"Staff will also be offered a test at their home if required."

Bristol Ambulance also took to Twitter to announce the test centre being in place.

In the tweet, it specified the drive-thru test centre was for NHS staff who had pre-booked an appointment and that walk-in tests were not being offered.

Pictures taken today show the ambulance crew on site, with a fencing put up for cars to drive through.

Bristol Ambulance said the centre has been set up to get those who do not have coronavirus back to work as soon as possible.
