The city of Mishima, Shizuoka Prefecture, has introduced a drive-through vaccination option that allows residents to receive COVID-19 shots from their vehicles.

Catering primarily toward elderly individuals who require nursing care, the service was launched earlier this month to expedite distribution of shots to people who want them.

On Saturday, 18 people awaited their turn in a line of cars chauffeured by family members and others, as a doctor walked around the parking lot administering vaccine.

About 120 people are expected to avail themselves of the service over a six-day period.

Tetsunosuke Morita, an 89-year-old who has difficulty walking on his own, visited the site together with his wife Toshiko, 87, in a car driven by a family member. "It was easy, I'm very grateful," Morita said after the couple received their vaccine.
