Drive-by shooting in Hobart suburb leaves one man in hospital

Young men feuding in the northern Hobart suburb of Bridgewater are being told to "put down their guns" by Tasmania Police, after a drive-by shooting last night.

A 26-year-old man remains in a stable condition in hospital after being shot as he was riding a motorbike along Albion Road at about 7:30pm.

Detective Inspector Craig Joel renewed his call for Tasmanians to find alternatives to guns to settle their disputes.

"The really strong message we want to send is that these young men have to find another way to settle their differences. This isn't the way to do it, there must be another way," he said.

"We encourage them to put down their guns, and to find a better way to settle their differences."

The man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital, but police said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Detectives believe the man was the intended target of the drive-by and are calling for anyone who saw two cars speeding away from the scene to come forward.

"Police are looking for the occupants of a green Hyundai sedan which was later recovered a few streets away," said Detective Inspector Joel.

"The vehicle was recovered intact, it wasn't burnt out.

"Police have some belief who was in the vehicle and want witnesses have come forward."

Police are still seeking a silver [Mitsubishi] Lancer, believed to also be involved in the incident.

Part of Albion Road was blocked off to traffic by police after the shooting.

No arrests have been made at this stage and the weapon has not been recovered.

It is the second shooting in the suburb in less than six months.

Police said there was no evidence the latest drive-by was connected to the shooting of young father Caleb Wood in Bridgewater in August this year.
