Londoners braved the cold and highest levels of coronavirus restrictions to enjoy a New Year's Eve drink.
People queued down the street in New Cross to get their hands on a frosty pint on a bitterly cold evening.
Mask wearing punters patiently waited their turn outside the White Hart, where a sign urged passersby to stop for a drink.
It read 'Take away beer is a Tier 4 essential! Come and have a pint.'
Temperatures are forecast to drop to -3C in the Capital tonight.
As of this morning a total of 44 million people, or 78% of the population of England, were living under the country's toughest restrictions.
Only the Isles of Scilly is now in Tier 1, with no areas in Tier 2, so bars and pubs across the land will have to be closed to customers.
Selling takeaway drinks is still allowed in Tiers 3 and 4 however, meaning those brave enough to weather icy temperatures can enjoy a drink outdoors until 11pm.
Those toying with the idea of hitting the tiles may want to consider whether it's worth the risk.
A record number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours in the UK, while the daily death toll edged closer to 1,000 - a number it hasn't surpassed since the Spring.
Hospitals, particularly those in the South East and London, are already struggling to treat the huge numbers of patients coming through their doors.
It was reported earlier today that the country's busiest hospital is in "disaster medicine mode" and unable to provide "high standard critical care" because it is understaffed and swamped by Covid-19 patients.
Dr Julia Grace Patterson, founder of NHS campaign group Every Doctor UK, revealed on Twitter that the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel had sent an email to notify staff of the dire situation.
The leaked email warned that the Royal London has only one nurse for every three Covid patients being treated in intensive care.
In a bid to halt the rising numbers of patients, Boris Johnson has called on people to stay home tonight.
“That means not meeting up with friends or family indoors, unless they are in the same household or support bubble, and avoiding large gatherings of any kind,” the PM said.
People who flout the rules and throw a party from New Years Eve onwards face a hefty £10,000 fine.
