Drink-driving mum left five-month-old baby 'home-alone' for daytime boozing session

A young mum who left her baby home to go out day-drinking has been charged with drink-driving and child abuse. Clare Margaret Meacham, 23, was arrest for driving under the influence after the police received multiple reports about a suspected drunk driver.

Court documents obtained by CBS 5 show once the mother was arrested, she informed officers she had left her five-month-old baby at home. Upon arriving at the 23-year-old's home, the officers stated they could hear the baby 'frantically' crying outside, reports the Mirror.

The terrified baby had been abandoned for two hours before police officers arrived at the house. Upon hearing the scream, officers entered the home and phoned the Department of Child Safety.

They then waited for a family member to arrive to look after the child, who was thankfully unhurt after the traumatic experience. Meacham told officials she put her baby in a crib before leaving her house, with footage from a doorbell camera showing she left at roughly 12.45pm.

The Arizona mum then claims she doesn't remember anything that occurred after that, according to a court report. CBS 5 claim reports show she didn’t try to contact anyone to ask them to watch the infant while she was away.

The news outlet also believes Meacham lives alone with the baby and the only other person with access to the house is her mother. Meacham was arrested for DUI and child abuse charges.
