Drink driver clipped kerb and spun car 360 degrees after getting lost on way home

A drink driver's car spun 360 degrees after she clipped the kerb after getting lost on her way home.

Karen Goose had hardly seen anyone since March last year, when the pandemic broke, and went to meet some friends in Derby for one or two drinks and did not expect to be over the limit.

But Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard she lost her way on her return and she thought she was distracted as she activated her Sat Nav.

She was seen to clip the kerb as she drove along Ilkeston Road, Stapleford, at around 12.10am on June 5 this year.

The vehicle spun 360 degrees before coming to a stop shortly before vehicles on the road.

Goose, 47, of Blantyre Avenue, Rise Park, pleaded guilty to drink-driving with 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, over the limit of 35.

Goose was of previous good character, with no previous convictions, and is a single mother of two children.

The court heard she has worked full-time throughout the pandemic and had very little time off.

Goose was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £250, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34 and costs of £85.

She was offered the drink drive rehabilitation course which would reduce her ban if completed.
