Drink-driver charged after two people hit by car in Jerrabomberra driveway

A 36-year-old driver recorded a high-range reading of 0.272 under official breath analysis after his car allegedly struck two men in the driveway of their Jerrabomberra home early on Monday afternoon.

Police allege that around 1pm on Monday, the man drove his Toyota SUV into a driveway in Franklin Court and struck the two men, injuring them both.

NSW Police said that before the driveway incident, the alleged drink-driver had driven his Toyota along Stella Place and had hit a concrete letterbox - destroying it - before continuing into a light pole and coming to a stop.

He then allegedly reversed into a tree before entering Franklin Court, entering the driveway of a house and hitting the pair with his vehicle.

The two victims - aged 73 and 35 respectively - were both treated at the scene before being taken to Canberra Hospital, where they remain in a stable condition. The older man received an abdominal and shoulder injury and the younger man suffered a serious leg injury.

The driver was taken to Queanbeyan police station and charged with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and drive high range PCA.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on 26 October 2020.
