Drink-driver caught four times over the limit after car broke down in Kilmarnock

A man was found drink driving while four times the limit on Kilmarnock's Hurlford Road.

Edward Doughty admitted the offence when he appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

The prosecutor told how police received a call about a broken down car on Kilmarnock’s Hurlford Road at around 11pm on April 30.

The fiscal depute said: “The accused was found outside the vehicle and a friend was within.

“The accused freely admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol and officers noted a smell of alcohol.”

Doughty, of Knochmarlock Drive, Kilmarnock pleaded guilty to driving a car on Hurlford Road while under the influence of alcohol.

The court heard how the 34-year-old was more than four times the legal limit after a breathalyser revealed he had 98 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 22mg.

Doughty will be sentenced next month.
