Drink driver caught careering down the M4 on the wrong side of the motorway

This is the moment a drunk driver was stopped by police driving the wrong way down the M4.

Guhue Prince was caught on the motorway in the early hours of Saturday, March 2, after hitting a police car.

He is now facing a lengthy four-year driving ban after admitting to dangerous driving, using words which could cause distress or harm, driving with alcohol level above the limit, and using a vehicle without insurance.

The 59-year-old was on the westbound carriageway heading towards Reading in Berkshire when he was stopped. Police were sent to the motorway after multiple reports of a car being driving in the wrong direction.

Officers stopped traffic behind them and then waited for the vehicle to approach.

During the arrest he used homophobic language and was aggressive towards the officers.

Prince, of Harlech Tower Park Road, East London was tested for alcohol and blew 57ug in the breathalyser with the legal limit being 35ug.

Prince was charged the following day.

He was given an eight month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months and banned from driving for four years.

The court also ordered him to carry out 240 hours of unpaid work, undergo a rehabilitation order and pay a victim surcharge of £140.

He will have to take an extended driving test at the end of his driving ban.

Investigating officer PC Benjamin Taylor of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit based Taplow, said: "Prince’s driving was extremely dangerous and put the life of other road users at risk and it is extremely fortunate that no one was seriously injured.

"This is a clear reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving and the effects it can have no decision making and on an individual’s ability to drive.

"Drinking driving is not acceptable and one of the fatal four and causes many serious accidents, we would remind the public that it’s not worth the risk."
