Drink driver caught by police after failing to turn on headlights

A drink driver was caught over the limit after she was stopped by officers in an unmarked police car for driving without her lights on.

Leah Eatoe, 20, was driving her blue Citroen C3 at Mansfield Leisure Park , in Park Lane, when officers pulled her over, before smelling alcohol on her breath.

A breath test found Eatoe was over the legal alcohol limit, having blown 49 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - exceeding the limit of 35 microgrammes.

Eatoe, of Oak Tree Road, Sutton in Ashfield , subsequently spent time in police custody before being charged with drink driving.

Appearing at Mansfield Magistrates' Court , she was banned from driving for 14 months and offered a drink driver's rehabilitation course - which could cut her ban by 106 days.

Mitigating, her legal barristers said the incident was "out of character", that she spent time in custody "in tears" and that she is due to start university in September having studied A-levels in PE, dance and social care.

Sentencing, magistrate Val Blackwell said: "You are now disqualified from driving for 14 months.

"This means you cannot drive any motor vehicle on any road or public place until the end of your disqualification."

Eatoe was also fined £430 and told to pay £85 court costs and a £43 victim surcharge.
