Drink-drive suspect with 'I'm not drunk' message on vehicle allegedly drove for a mile with one wheel missing

A motorist with a "I'm not drunk" bumper sticker has been charged with drink-driving - after travelling at least a mile in his car with one wheel missing.

Officers had been called to the scene of a crash in Ironbridge, Shropshire, on Saturday night after a Range Rover collided with a bollard.

They found the badly-damaged vehicle was a write-off and its missing wheel was a mile away from the scene.

West Mercia Police shared images of the wreckage as well as bumper sticker on the back of the car which read: "I'm not drunk, just avoiding potholes".

The force said a man was arrested and charged with driving with excess alcohol in his breath after blowing double the drink driving limit in custody.

Police in Telford posted on Twitter: "#DrinkDriver last night in #Ironbridge.

"His Range Rover was ruined when we located him & so was he as he failed the breath test! #Arrested, blew 70 in custody & charged to court. We eventually found the missing wheel 1 mile away on the Wharfage! A whole mile!

"This was his bumper sticker...Definitely WAS drunk. Definitely didn’t avoid hitting things as he took out his wheel on a bollard."

Social media users were quick to point out the irony of the driver's bumper sticker after officers shared the photos.

Jules Flips Bilton said "Omg why just why" while Loz Hawkins added: "Oh the irony, what a complete pillock."

Tom Price added: "People with comedy bumper stickers need arresting anyway, so this guy deserves to have the book thrown at him. What possesses some people?"

Telford Cops later replied: "Selfishness & stupidity? Luckily it was just a barrier/bollard he hit & not a car or person."
