Drink drive suspect 'lucky to be alive' after car ploughs through power line in Co Down

A man man has been rescued from his car moments before it went on fire in Co Down after taking out a power line in Co Down.

Police say the driver is lucky to be alive after the vehicle took out an electric line before landing in the garden of a family home.

The incident happened in Downpatrick on Friday night and the PSNI reported a drink drive test shows he had been three times over the blood alcohol limit at the time.

Police made an arrest at the scene of the driver who is suspected of drink driving.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Another weekend, another drink-drive arrest; this time in Downpatrick.

"The suspect is lucky to be alive, after being trapped in this car before it went on fire.

"The car also took out an electric power line before landing in a family's front garden.

"He blew over three times the drink-drive limit, so has been arrested.

"The message remains the same; never ever drink and drive."
