A driver has been arrested after their car flipped over on the A580 East Lancs Road in a single vehicle collision.
A wheel had become detached from the overturned car and landed in the opposing carriageway and hit another vehicle. The East Lancs dual carriageway had to be closed for a couple of hours late on Friday.
Greater Manchester Traffic Police closed the A580 in both directions and managed to free the driver uninjured. The driver was handed a roadside breathalyser test and gave a positive reading.
The driver has been arrested and remanded in police custody pending further enquiries.
GMP tweeted at 1.43am: "A580 East Lancs Road, driver flips the car, causing a wheel to detach and fly into the opposing carriageway hitting another vehicle.
"Driver of this provides positive sample of breath and is detained."
