Drink drive arrest after vehicle smashes into M9 crash barrier near Edinburgh

Police rushed to the scene of an accident on the M9 near Edinburgh on Sunday morning.

Officers from Edinburgh and West Lothian attended the one vehicle accident, close to junction 1A.

When they arrived they found that the vehicle had collided with one of the crash barriers, and that thankfully there were no injuries.

However the driver was arrested for alleged drink driving – with roads police saying that a reading of 90 microgrammes, more than four times the limit, was recorded.

Road Policing Scotland tweeted: "Edinburgh RP & West Lothian RP attended a single vehicle collision on the M9 near J1A this morning after a vehicle collided with one of the crash barriers. Thankfully no injuries but driver arrested for drink driving, later provided a lower reading of 90 microgrammes (limit 22)."

Edinburgh Live reported on Saturday how police had been embarking on a huge drink drive crackdown on the city's West Approach Road.

Officers carrying out early morning checks on Friday stopped and tested almost 60 drivers. All motorists provided zero readings for alcohol and drugs.
